Sanguine Foundations November Reflection

Observing Transgender Awareness Week, I live streamed every day from 8:00 PM till 9:00 PM, working on Sanguine Foundations pages.

That being said, live streaming is hard!

I had never actually done it before and then to jump to seven days straight of fighting to make my setup work and fighting with my document camera; sometimes you just have to commit to the process. At present I don't have a drafting desk, so I've been using a little fold-out easel which has proved equally useful and frustrating. Having to rearrange my computer to make space to set up was another story entirely.

All-in-all, this was a learning experience and beyond that, I find myself in constant humility around making Sanguine Foundations. I feel in my heart that it's going to be something special and I think that's because it's not a work motivated by dunking on she who shall not be named (though that's a certainly a perk), but it's motivated by a desire to empower trans folks and to move in step with my conscience and follow my desire for social change.

The needle moves because we make it move, when we look at issues and work to change the conversations and the world around us.

I'm not a fan of the status quo because we can always do better and to that point, we should celebrate the work that is already out there like Margaret Killjoy's The Sapling Cage. I can't wait to see what comes after Sanguine Foundations; from trans creators and Black trans creators especially. The day after transgender awareness week is transgender day of remembrance and as we remember the trans lives lost, it's important to keep a spirit of resistance as we fight for a better tomorrow.
