Kickstarter Week-One Reflections

Promotion and asking people for money has always felt less than amazing.

Even more so when there are other causes and people who need it; when there are people in our communities, trans people, people in Palestine, Sudan, Congo and other places, devastated. In conjunction, I've tried to hold the idea that art in these times is important — it's not just giving you an escape; it's giving you possibility, it's holding a mirror to the world and asking you to think and engage and maybe it inspires you to do something.

Hyper Comics publishes comics and graphic novels for free digitally. Sharing the art and ideas is more important than profiting. This Kickstarter isn't about profit; it's about sharing this story as widely as possible and putting books in people's hands and having a conversation through these pages. Sharing art and ideas with you.

“They have so many better things to do than read your books, and the least you can do in this world where we are competing for time is write as hard as you can." -Ta-Nehisi Coates

It's been a successful first week; the campaign is almost halfway funded which is phenomenal and the support and people spreading the word, sharing posts has been humbling in the best ways. The power of community and helping to make this idea a reality are so powerful and I appreciate everyone who has been so supportive and instrumental in getting this done; from sensitivity readers Akira and D, Kara Huset who provided an amazing variant cover, to my friends and family who have heard me talk about this book endlessly and you, for taking your time to read my words.

I'm excited for the next three weeks of this campaign and to share more art and ideas along the way!
